APC Courts Sen. Hanga Amid Reported Rift with Kwankwaso

KANO — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly intensified efforts to attract Senator Rufai Sani Hanga amid reports of a widening rift between the lawmaker and the vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Sources familiar with the development told finenewsng.com that influential figures within the APC have initiated behind-the-scenes consultations with Senator Hanga in what is seen as part of the party’s strategy to consolidate its political base in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“There have been contacts at different levels, but the discussions are still ongoing,” a source familiar with the consultations said. “No final decision has been taken, and it would be inaccurate to conclude that Senator Hanga has agreed to join the APC.”
The reported overtures come amid speculation that relations between Senator Hanga and Kwankwaso have deteriorated following recent political developments.
Although details of the reported disagreement remain unclear, the development has fueled talk of a possible realignment involving the Kano Central lawmaker.
Neither Senator Hanga nor Kwankwaso has publicly addressed the reports of a rift, while the APC has also remained silent on the alleged recruitment efforts.
However, any decision by Senator Hanga to align with another political platform would make Kwankwaso vulnerable against the backdrop of Hanga’s domineering influence in Kano Central.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official confirmation that Senator Hanga was planning to leave his current political platform or that the reported consultations with the APC had produced any agreement.
