AKY Medical Outreach Targets 2,100 Eye Patients in Gwale, Kano Municipal

KANO — No fewer than 2,100 residents of Gwale and Kano Municipal local government areas are expected to benefit from a two-day free eye care outreach under the AKY Medical Outreach Programme scheduled to hold on July 18 and 19 at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.
The Kano State Hospitals Management Board (HMB) announced that the initiative is being organised in support of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s healthcare agenda, with specialist ophthalmologists set to provide free eye screening, treatment, prescription glasses and surgical interventions for eligible patients.
According to a statement issued by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, the outreach will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the hospital.
She said the programme is designed to improve access to quality eye care services for residents of the two metropolitan local government areas, particularly those unable to afford specialist treatment.
“The AKY Medical Outreach will provide free eye screening and treatment for 1,000 patients, free prescription eyeglasses for another 1,000 beneficiaries, as well as free eye surgeries for 100 patients requiring surgical intervention,” the statement said.
The Board urged eligible residents of Gwale and Kano Municipal to take advantage of the intervention, describing the outreach as part of ongoing efforts by the Yusuf administration to strengthen healthcare delivery and expand access to essential medical services across Kano State.
It added that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to preventive healthcare and the restoration of sight for vulnerable members of the public through targeted community-based medical interventions.
